Education for Need Foundation, (E4N Foundation), operates on the principle
that education breaks the cycle of poverty and is the seed of opportunity.
We have designed our programs to benefit the whole community
by including children/pupils, teachers and parents/guardians who play a vital
role in strengthening the education system and thus empowering the whole
community with a wealth of resources, ideas and knowledge.
E4N Foundation believes that education is the seed of opportunity and helping
children access quality and ethics-based education is creating an economically
and socially empowered community.
In Kenya,
Primary School Education is free but for children to continue with their
education, they desperately need books, pens/pencils and uniforms without which
most of the drop-out of school.
Secondary School Education is not free though the Government
of Kenya subsidized tuition fees but still the fees are too high for students
from poor families to afford and only privileged students from rich families
can attend secondary schools.
Most children come from very poor families and their parents can only afford to
provide one meal per day for the family and thus buying of uniforms and
stationery for their children in order to attend school proves to be a tag of war.
The end result is that children who had great passion for education
but little resources, drop-out of school and get involved in child labor to help
feed their families.
In one of our research, we found out that almost 80% of children dropping from
school due to lack of fees, stationery and uniform are very bright and if given
a chance and support, they can perform very well academically and thereafter
become great people in society.
To assist the needy, orphaned and vulnerable students with a
better start in life we designed the following programs;
Education Sponsorships
Full Sponsorship
Under this program, the best male and female student from the Eighth Grade
(Graduating Class) will each receive Full Scholarship to attend Secondary
School for one year and if they demonstrate outstanding performance and excel
in their studies, they will receive another year of Sponsorship until they
Graduate.
Direct Sponsorship
Here a sponsor chooses to support a specific student and sponsors them
throughout Secondary School until they finally graduate after four years.
Direct Sponsorship covers transport costs, uniforms, stationery, accomodation
and pocket money.
The Sponsor chooses to pay once or in installments and will receive their
student's and report card at the end of every term to monitor the academic
progress of the student. The Sponsor will also receive occasional letter from his/her student.
Adopt-a-Teacher
With the successful introduction and implementation of the Free Primary School education in Kenya,
the number of children attending primary schools almost tripled. The end
result has been an acute shortage of Teachers.
For instance, in one primary school we visited, a single teacher was attending
to 150+ Pupils! We were very compelled and decided to find a way of solving the
shortage of Teachers.
We developed the 'Adopt-A-Teacher Program' where we pay teachers and distribute
them in schools where they are needed most.
We also organize volunteer teams of students we sponsor in Colleges and
Universities to visit the schools in need where they teach for free.
The above measures have helped but have not solved the shortage of teachers
in Primary schools; we therefore call upon you to help by adopting a teacher
for a Primary School by donating.
Computers for Learning
In an effort to help communities realize and unlock there
full potential, we designed the “Computer for Learning” campaign.
The program in essence aims to bridge the technology divide
between the technology empowered and technology excluded communities.
The program has raised a lot of interest from schools and it
has helped to revolutionize how education is contacted, provided new
opportunities to students to explore and express themselves.
The program aims to impart basic computer skills to children
at an early age.
Wheels 4 Education
In this program, we provide free bicycles to students and
teachers who walk long distances to attend school.
The program has helped students and teachers attend schools
full time and without the bike they only used to attend school few times a day.
Before the bikes are given to recipients, they are trained
on how to service, maintain and repair the bikes to ensure long life span.
